Angela Calnan and Michael Morris, both partners of Collas Crill, have been recognised in the 2019 Spear's 500 private client guide.
Released annually, this popular directory provides a comprehensive list of professionals and organisations across property, wealth management, tax and trust, family law, education, art and so forth. This year's edition also welcomes a new chapter dedicated to lawyers and accountants beyond London to support the growing private wealth sector, which has topped $200 trillion.
Angela, who heads Collas Crill's multi-award winning fiduciary practice in Guernsey has been recognised by the publication as a 'Best of Breed' offshore lawyer.
Known to be 'passionate' about her work, Angela, who previously lived and worked in the UAE for a number of years, is regarded as the 'go to' lawyer in Guernsey for Middle East private client work and foundations, and has extensive experience in establishing, reorganising and terminating offshore dynastic structures (i.e. structures involving a combination of trusts, foundations and companies).
‘Many of my clients are Muslim and structuring family businesses offshore can add greater flexibility as regards the transmission of family shares, particularly where female heirs work within the business,’ explained Angela.
Listed as a 'Distinguished Individual' property lawyer by Spear's, Michael Morris takes the lead in Collas Crill's UK Real Estate team.
Described as 'a dedicated lawyer willing to go the extra mile to complete a transaction,' since 2011 Michael has been specialising in looking after funds, major financial institutions, and high net worth individuals, advising them in respect of their UK real estate transactions, whether held directly or in offshore structures. He acts for many private and international banks advising on the banking and security aspects of real estate finance transactions.
Michael commented; "To be recognised as one of the leading property lawyers in the UK is an accolade that I am extremely proud of. Our private clients are becoming increasingly corporatised, investing outside of the traditional London residential property market, whilst our international clients are making investments in commercial real estate particularly in hotels, logistics and the private rented sector both in London and in the regions. We have also seen growth in private clients undertaking and funding residential development, covering both small and large projects, all of which demonstrate confidence in the UK property market."
