Collas Crill is delighted to be the headline sponsor of Art for Guernsey's eagerly awaited exhibition, A Renaissance of Victor Hugo - the first fully fledged exhibition to be hosted in the new Mansell Street gallery.
Aligned with the completed refurbishment of the building, the exhibition will showcase the works of Art for Guernsey's most recent artists in residence, the internationally acclaimed Daniel Hosego and Oleg Mikhailov. The exhibition will run from 30 March to 20 May.
The exhibition will be delivered in direct collaboration with the Victor Hugo museums in Hauteville and in Paris, with further connections to key societies and individuals focused on the legacy of Victor Hugo in Guernsey, delivering a show inclusive of artefacts, information and digital media that will bring the narrative to life.

Oleg Mikhailov is obsessed with the sea, his abiding subject and the source of his dreams and inspiration. He studied painting and printmaking at the renowned St Petersburg Academy of Arts, where he discovered his love of lithography. He is one of the best stone lithographers in the world and it is a privilege to have an artist of such calibre collaborating with Art for Guernsey.
Daniel Hosego is one of the rising stars of the contemporary art scene. His colour-print artworks in particular place him as an artist at the inflexion point between a mathematically driven street artist and a Renaissance old master. His drawing skills and the robustness of his narratives are second to none and we expect that this show will have a revealing impact on Daniel’s already blossoming international career.
David Ummels of Art for Guernsey said: 'Both artists are incredibly versatile and contemporary in their approach, while still strongly influenced by the Renaissance and its myriad symbols and metaphors. They were tasked with the daunting mission of revisiting the legacy of the ultimate ‘Renaissance Man’ in Guernsey, Victor Hugo, and specifically his novel Toilers of the Sea. Both artists have produced jaw-dropping, museum-quality artworks that will undoubtedly inspire our community and constitute a tier-one artistic legacy for the island.'
Early visitors to the exhibition will encounter a few pleasant surprises, with a spectacular installation planned for the opening week, a bespoke limited edition Victor Hugo rum on sale and plans underway for a few elements of the exhibition to create a lasting artistic legacy on public display.
