Jonathan Barham joins Collas Crill's Global Insolvency and Corporate Disputes team

Jonathan Barham has joined Collas Crill as a Partner in the Global Insolvency and Corporate Disputes team.

With more than 20 years’ experience of dealing with all aspects of commercial litigation, encompassing a broad range of business, corporate, insolvency and trust disputes, Jonathan is will also act as the Local Practice Head of the Jersey team.

Jonathan moved to Jersey in 2020 and was admitted to the Jersey bar in 2023. A former English Solicitor and English Barrister, he also sits as a Commissioner of Appeal for Tax for the Government of Jersey.

His appointment to the firm coincides with Collas Crill Partner and former Local Practice Head Simon Hurry's relocation to the firm's Cayman Islands team from Jersey.

On his appointment to the firm, Jonathan said: 'I am delighted to have joined Collas Crill and to be taking over the reins of the Jersey Insolvency and Corporate Disputes team from Simon Hurry, who is relocating to our Cayman office.

'I am looking forward to building on Simon's excellent relationships with local Insolvency Practitioners and Corporate Services Providers and wish Simon all the best in his new role.'

Simon has more than 15 years of multi-jurisdictional litigation and alternative dispute resolution experience, having previously been based in the firm's Cayman Islands jurisdiction on secondment from 2015 until 2018.

On his relocation, Simon said: 'I am delighted to be returning to our Cayman Islands office having been part of the dispute resolution team with Stephen Leontsinis when Collas Crill merged with CARD (Charles Adams Ritchie & Duckworth) in 2015. The Cayman Islands office has gone from strength to strength since that time and I look forward to contributing towards its continued success.

'I am very proud of the insolvency and corporate disputes team in Jersey, which has become a market leader with considerable experience and talent across the board. It is my pleasure to welcome Jonathan Barham as the new head of the team. Jonathan is an exceptional practitioner and will materially enhance not only our insolvency and corporate disputes offering, but also our wider dispute resolution practice.'

Stephen Leontsinis, Cayman Managing Partner and Global Head of Insolvency and Corporate Disputes at Collas Crill said: 'During his secondment in Cayman in 2015, Simon became a close friend and trusted colleague during my early days at the firm. Happily, he has chosen to make the Cayman Islands his home once again. His experience and expertise will be a huge asset to the Cayman team as we continue to grow the practice both locally and abroad. I'm very much looking forward to working with him again as he starts the next chapter of his career – and family life – with us here.

'Simon hands  over the leadership of Jersey Insolvency and Corporate Disputes to the very capable Jonathan Barham. A well-known Jersey advocate to many of our Channel Islands colleagues, I am confident that the he will continue to lead the team from strength to strength.'
