Collas Crill was very proud to support the Liberation Day hampers this year, along with the Guernsey Dairy.
A team of Collas Crill volunteers spent busy morning handing the hampers out on Monday 8 May, meeting some of the islanders who remained in Guernsey during the Occupation or who were evacuated and hearing their stories.
In total the team handed out 463 hampers. The remaining 37 were taken by Collas Crill to the Princess Elizabeth Hospital for staff members on duty over the Bank Holiday to enjoy.
Partner Jason Green was one of the volunteers helping out on 8 May, and the driving force behind Collas Crill's involvement in the initiative.
'The feedback has been brilliant. We heard some lovely stories and there was genuine gratitude from those who can sometimes feel left out by the Liberation celebrations, many of whom had been really excited waiting to collect their parcel. It was lovely to see and meet a war veteran with his medals, another with his original Occupation identity card and another with photos of her time as a nurse in the Occupation. Speaking on behalf of the team, we found the whole experience both humbling but extremely rewarding. We hope everyone enjoyed the provisions and had happy Liberation Day,' he said.
