Associate Annabel Bishop recently relocated from Guernsey to the Corporate, Finance and Funds team in the BVI office. Here she shares her first impressions of her new life in the BVI.
Anyone who knows me well will know that I love to travel to new places but that my biggest dislike is cold weather. So, when the opportunity arose to move to Collas Crill’s office in the BVI, a jurisdiction which was both warm and surrounded by many beautiful islands to explore, it was a chance just too good to miss.
I first visited the BVI for a few days in January 2022 and immediately felt at home. I grew up in Guernsey and have spent short stints in both Jersey and the Cayman Islands, so I knew island life suited me.
My first thought on arrival was how beautiful the island setting was and this was quickly followed by the frightening thought of having to navigate the steep (often slippery) roads and potholes. Luckily I quickly got used to the roads and have learnt that my old Jeep Wrangler can handle just about anything, even when Elevator Hill (my road home) resembles a waterfall!
I’m excited about spending my first Christmas here in the sun and intend to spend the days off scuba diving and hiking with new friends.
The BVI seems to offer a perfect blend of developing a high-level legal career together with enjoying a wonderful lifestyle.
The jurisdiction is highly regarded as a financial services centre and within that Collas Crill is a leading corporate and litigation player.
I am looking forward to gaining further offshore experience and to helping both existing and new clients with their many and varied offshore needs.
As well as now being a certified navigator of 14% incline roads, Annabel was admitted to the BVI Bar on 1 December 2022 see here.
